This week in Reception, the children have continued to enjoy learning new sounds in their Read Write Inc (RWI) lessons. This is a phonics based programme which helps the children to learn to read whilst also developing a wide range of vocabulary, and encouraging a love of stories. This has encouraged children in Maple, who have enjoyed exploring the books and playing in the 'Reading Area', reading to friends and taking on the role of a character from a story for role play, creating new stories. Children have used the finger puppets and role play masks to become characters from the stories they have listened to.
There are also a number of things you could try with your child at home, such as:
Reading different stories to help develop their understanding and knowledge.
Let the children use the books to tell you a story.
Question your child about the story you have read to them to help develop their comprehension skills.
