Work After Easter

Dear Parents/ Carers, We hope you are all safe and well and that you are managing to cope during these difficult and uncertain times. We have all been busy over the Easter holidays, making sure that we stay open for those parents and carers who need our support. Thank you to all the parents who have sent us such lovely messages of encouragement, it means a lot as we too are worried and anxious about our families. Hopefully, things will soon begin to look a little brighter and we will emerge from this as a strong community who can face most things so long as we stick together. We will continue to follow all of the advice and guidance from the government, particularly regarding any ‘exit strategy’ for the school. However, we believe it is too soon to plan for this as yet and we await further government decisions. As soon as any decisions are made we will, of course, communicate these with you as soon as possible. Home Learning Packs We have had a few enquiries from parents/ carers regarding schoolwork for their children after Easter. We will continue to post regular work online for your children and we are also looking to provide ‘hard’ copies of this work for parents to collect if they do not have access to the internet or are finding it difficult to use the pages online. The teachers will be providing enough English and maths online (or a hard copy) for 4 weeks of work (one piece of English and one piece of maths per day). It is up to you when you decide to do them and in what order. The teacher will also be posting additional links and ideas for you on a daily basis too and some of these links may be re-usable. Our suggestion is that the children do the following each day:

  • 1 piece of English AND daily reading

  • 1 piece of maths

  • 1 physical activity

  • 1 other activity

We are aware that for some parents, you may not feel this is enough, so please feel free to supplement this with additional activities that are readily available on-line. The BBC will also be launching their activities for children on Monday 20th April so please keep a lookout for these as they will be advertised. We are also aware that some parents may find this work too much, so again please just do whatever you can and whatever you feel is right for you as a family. We want the children to keep up with some learning if possible and enjoy their activities, but the MOST important thing is that you are all safe and well, both physically and emotionally so please don’t stress! The packs will go on-line by Thursday 23rd April and be available to collect by Friday 24th April if you prefer. Additional work will also be posted on-line daily too. In order to ensure that we know how many packs to photocopy and to avoid waste, please can you email the class sites if you require a physical pack, so that we know how many are needed and don’t waste precious resources. Childcare Provision after Easter Please can we also respectfully remind parents that all UK schools continue to remain closed to all but the children of key workers (who do not have partners working from home and who cannot find alternative arrangements) and already identified vulnerable families. We currently have a list of who these families are and have been speaking personally to you over the past few weeks to discuss your needs. If, however, you believe you are a key worker who is eligible for childcare from school, we ask that you contact school directly to discuss your needs if we are not already in contact with you. PLEASE do not just turn up to school without prior discussions as we may not have the appropriate staffing ratios and we need to operate a booking system in order to ensure the safety of our children and staff. Please can I also politely ask that, if you have booked a place in our childcare that you ensure you use it or at least contact school to make us aware in good time that you will not require the place as this has a considerable impact on our staffing requirements. Obviously, this will not be possible for you if it is due to a sudden illness etc… Many of our staff have young families too and we are trying to support everyone during these difficult and uncertain times. Free School Meals Vouchers Just a final reminder that the national voucher scheme for our school will go ‘live’ on Monday for those families who are entitled to Free School Meals. For those parents for whom we have an email address, the 16 digit e- codes should come directly to you via email on Monday 20th April and you will then need to log on to: www.freeschoolmeals.co.uk and chose your supermarket e- gift card . You cannot use the 16 digit code at the shops, it must be exchanged for an e-gift card on line first. If, however, you have not received the code by 1; 30pm, then contact us at school. A top tip in the first instance is to check your ‘Junk’ email as we have heard that this is where some of the voucher codes are ending up. If you have not provided us with an email address then we will redeem your codes and contact you directly. Please be aware that this system is experiencing significant difficulty at the moment and there may be lots of ‘teething’ problems. We are monitoring the system daily and believe we are on track, but please bear with us on this. In the meantime, stay safe and look after each other. We miss you all loads and cannot wait to see you all again soon. Yours sincerely, Mrs Patricia Scott
