My name is Julie Thomas, I am a Registered Nurse, Specialist Practitioner and I lead the School Nurse Team at Bilston Health Centre, working with pupils, parents, education and other agencies to support school – aged children to meet their full potential, physically, emotionally and socially through working in partnership.

 

I have been a school nurse in Bilston since 1986 and most people know me as ‘Nurse Julie’, I am on my third generation of some families I have come to know over these many years and this I believe is very valuable. I feel I am approachable, friendly, empathetic, a good listener and have the skills and knowledge to support the school age population in Bilston.

 

Part of my role at Loxdale Primary School is to train and educate the school staff in some medical areas for example Asthma, Epi-pens, Diabetes etc. I also undertake teaching in most years within the school, hand-washing in reception, healthy eating in most years, dental care etc and I find all the pupils really enjoy ‘Nurse Julie ‘coming in.

 

I know and understand the community in Bilston very well, I am aware of the needs of the area and the challenges people face.
