Wolverhampton is a ‘City of Sanctuary’ (About Us - Wolverhampton City of Sanctuary) that currently has a number of schools holding a ‘School of Sanctuary’ status. Loxdale are proud to announce that we are working hard to achieve this award. It is expected that we will go through the accreditation process in the summer term.

At Loxdale, we are committed to being a safe and welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary. Our school is a space for those who need a safe space; a space where they can feel safe.

A ‘School of Sanctuary’ is a school that actively promotes a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, especially individuals seeking sanctuary or asylum. At Loxdale Primary School, we aim to foster empathy, understanding, and support for those who have experienced persecution. We believe this can be achieved by educating the school community about sanctuary, engaging with sanctuary seekers and their families, and by taking positive actions to embed these values within our school and wider community.

At Loxdale, we want to build a community which fosters a culture of welcome and safety for people seeking sanctuary, including asylum seeking and refugee families. This includes welcoming children and their families to our Loxdale family, as they join us in the UK.

We are committed to educating the whole school community about the human right to sanctuary and want to demonstrate our commitment to this through becoming a School of Sanctuary in our own right.

Through promoting the voices and contributions of people seeking sanctuary, encouraging an understanding of the experiences of displaced people and helping to combat stereotypes, we are looking to support, guide and welcome newly arrived families to Loxdale.

We are planning our first Refugee Week, whereby we will be looking to support the ‘Community is our Superpower’ theme. Please look out for more details to follow and we look forward to sharing with you our journey, when we become accredited.
