Reception Maple Stay and Play

January 01, 2020

Reception Maple really enjoyed our stay and play session on Friday. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to share the children's learning experiences.  We had lots of fun taking part in 'bonfire' themed activities and really enjoyed getting messy.

Bread Making

November 04, 2019

In Reception for our 'fabulous finish' to the 'Little Red Hen' we made bread just like in the story. As well as making it, we got to choose a topping for it and thoroughly enjoyed tasting the finished result!

Diwali

October 24, 2019

This week in Reception the children have learnt about Diwali. Diwali is the festival of light, the children have enjoyed making and painting diva lamps, decorating Rangoli patterns and painting mehndi patterns on hands.

Visit from a chicken!

October 20, 2019

To round off our topic about ‘The Little Red Hen’ , a real hen came to visit us in school! It was lovely to meet her and  she was very well behaved. We enjoyed learning about what she likes to eat, where she sleeps and how noisy she is. She was really friendly and even let us stroke her.  A big thank you to Mia’s Mom and Dad for bringing her in to visit us and we hope that she enjoyed it as much as we did.

Maple - Phonics Work

October 10, 2019

This week in Reception, the children have continued to enjoy learning new sounds in their Read Write Inc (RWI) lessons. This is a phonics based programme which helps the children to learn to read whilst also developing a wide range of vocabulary, and encouraging a love of stories. This has encouraged children in Maple, who have enjoyed exploring the books and playing in the 'Reading Area', reading to friends and taking on the role of a character from a story for role play, creating new stories. Children have used the finger puppets and role play masks to become characters from the stories they have listened to.

There are also a number of things you could try with your child at home, such as:

  • Reading different stories to help develop their understanding and knowledge.

  • Let the children use the books to tell you a story.

  • Question your child about the story you have read to them to help develop their comprehension skills.

Maples Cojo Challenge

October 06, 2019

Reception Maple have completed their first Cojo challenge. Every few weeks Commando Joe sends us a different challenge to complete and this week it was all about 'Sophie Self-Awareness'. We had to complete an obstacle course blindfolded, whilst one child was blindfolded their partner had to lead them and give instructions. We learnt important skills such as: working as a team, thinking about others and most importantly not giving up when things become hard! Commando Joe has also given us a class bear. Each week a child who has worked hard is chosen to take the bear home for the weekend.
