Bonjour

March 16, 2020

Reception Willow really enjoyed the French day, we carried out different French activities. We loved tasting French food, and all decided how nice it would be if we had crepes and croissants for breakfast! We made flags, constructed the Eiffel tower using straws and learnt about the famous landmarks in France. The children were excited to come to school dressed in French flag colours. We also learnt a French rhyme, ask your child to perform it to you! Au Revoir!

World Book Day

March 10, 2020

Reception Willow really enjoyed taking part in 'World Book Day'. The children were very excited to dress up as their favourite book character, and really liked seeing their friends and teachers dressed up. The children listened to lots of stories throughout the day, some that the children brought into school to share. During the afternoon for Helicopter story time,  the children enjoyed acting out their character and created a story through role play.

Road Safety day

March 02, 2020

The children have had a visit from the school crossing patrol officer. She talked to the children about crossing the road safely. They also the opportunity to ask questions and discuss how they cross the road. The children also used the props to show their understanding of how to cross the road safely.  They have shown as a class great understanding of road safety and thoroughly enjoyed pretending to be the lollipop lady/man, the traffic and the pedestrians.  Well done Reception Willow

Hungry Little Minds

February 10, 2020

Children soak up every little bit of stimulation you give them. All the little things you do with your child – like everyday conversations, make-believe play and reading together – make a big difference to the development of their speech and understanding of words. Everyday moments can be used to boost your child’s learning, as they are interested in all sorts of things. The Hungry Little Minds campaign provides lots of simple tips and activities that you can slot into your routine and that children love. Such as:

• Play ‘I spy’ on the bus with them and you can see their imaginations light up

• Talk to your child about what has happened so far in the day – for example, “We went to the shops this morning, didn’t we? We bought some apples.” And talk about what is going to happen next – “After lunch we’ll do the washing up”

• Look at picture books together. With each new page, give your child time to point out things to you and talk about what they can see.

Improving early communication, language and literacy development is a huge part of what we do here every day at Loxdale Primary School in both Nursery and Reception.  We are delighted to support the Hungry Little Minds campaign.  We would love it if you would join us.

Search 'Hungry Little Minds' for lots more ideas and resources, including a list of approved educational apps.

Thank you. #hungrylittleminds @educationgovuk

The Launch of the Spaceship

February 04, 2020

This week in Reception the children discovered a Spaceship in their playground.

Throughout the week the children have enjoyed learning about space and different planets. They have explored different learning opportunities through play and writing. The children wrote a Lost Poster to ask the Aliens to come back.

On Friday they found the aliens in their classrooms and enjoyed playing with them before it was time for the aliens to return to their home planet.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

January 27, 2020

Reception have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year and how people celebrate all around the world. They listened to the story of 'Chinese New Year' and found out that this year is the year of the 'Rat'. The children enjoyed painting Chinese numbers, exploring red noodles, making their own Chinese calendars and colouring in the 2020 year of the rat poster.

Alien Alert!

January 21, 2020

Reception are really enjoying our new space topic! We have had lots of fun hiding aliens outside, making funny aliens using playdough and with junk modelling materials. We have also learnt about Tim Peake and enjoyed learning about his job as an astronaut.  We have also learnt lots of facts about space using non-fiction books!

We are really excited to find out what else could happen in this topic!
