Year 3 Beech have taken Prehistoric art to the next level today! They have collected their own natural products and experimented with them to identify which products have the most effective pigments!

The children enjoyed trying out each of our fun handwriting characters: 🦎 Lizard, 🦁 Stone Lion, 🐧 Penguin, 🐻 Bear and 🦦 Meerkat. These different positions help us think about our posture, pencil grip and how we can be comfortable and focused when writing. Year 5 Pine showed fantastic enthusiasm as they practised each position and discussed which one will help them produce their neatest handwriting. In Art, Year 5 Pine have been exploring how different types of lines can be used to convey movement and emotion. This week, the children created artwork inspired by Charlie Mackesy, recreating their own memories through the use of expressive gestural lines. Using felt-tip pens and water to create a range of effects, the children produced thoughtful and visually striking pieces that reflected both their creativity and personal experiences.

Dear Parents/Carers, This morning we carried out a planned Lockdown Drill as part of our regular health, safety and safeguarding procedures. We are pleased to say that all of the children were absolutely brilliant. They listened carefully to instructions, remained calm and followed our procedures exceptionally well. Year 5 Pine have been making some wonderful music this afternoon! 🎼 The children have been exploring musical dynamics, learning how to use crescendo to gradually get louder, diminuendo to gradually get quieter, and forte to play with a strong, loud sound. 🔊🎵 It was fantastic to see everyone listening carefully, working together and putting their new musical vocabulary into practice. Year 5 Cedar have spent the morning debating in Literacy. They had lots of fun using wool to see how their ideas linked.

Yesterday, Year 2 became bird experts as they investigated how different bird beaks are adapted for collecting food. Using tweezers, pegs and spoons to represent different types of beaks, the children worked hard to pick up rice and pom poms, discovering which "beaks" were best suited to different foods. We have really enjoyed our first Science lesson in Year 1! 🧪👣 This week, we explored our bodies and investigated our feet. We took off our shoes and compared our foot sizes to see who had the biggest feet in the class. Our enquiry question was: "Do older children have bigger feet?" 🤔 After measuring and comparing our results, we found that older children do not always have bigger feet. We discovered that people can have different sized feet, and age is not the only factor

We are so proud of Year 5 Pine's incredible effort in their Textiles DT unit! The children designed their own stuffed toys, practised running stitch, cross stitch and blanket stitch, then used these skills to create their final products! Year 5 Pine had an exciting afternoon as they began the planning process for their final Design and Technology project of the year. They have come up with some fantastic ideas for creating their own stuffed toys in textiles, and we can't wait to see their designs and creativity brought to life!

Our Reception children were very excited this morning as they finally got to dig up the vegetables they planted and nurtured earlier in the year. They carefully searched through the soil and were delighted to discover how much their vegetables had grown! Pine have been learning about reproduction in plants. During their science lesson, they carefully dissected a flower to identify the male and female reproductive parts and understand how plants reproduce.

This week in History, Year 3 have looked at what the Ancient Egyptians believed about the after life. They explored the process of mummification and even had a go at mummifying their own tomato. Ask them all about it!

Today we have started to think about problem solving! We have used the shaped to make a picture and then work out the parts and whole by putting them on the bar model. Well done everyone!
